PILLOW FORT

An at home activity

Design it. Built it. Love it. Have someone else clean it.

FORT COOL

Channel your inner tradie. The one thing that we Listies know about being in the construction industry is that they HAVE to wear bright colours. DO NOT! For safety reasons (ie possibly being arrested by the fashion police) attempt to build anything without wearing HIGH VIS.

Now it’s time to build…

A pillow fort is not just a pile of cushions and blankets. It is a headquarters. A creative studio. An ‘innovation’ hub A top secret base of operations. And it is the best place in the house to do almost anything on this page. There is one thing that a pillowfort cannot be: a toilet.  Plumbing is very expensive.

Stuff to get:

  • Couch cushions

  • Pillows

  • Blankets

  • Chairs

  • Pegs or bulldog clips to hold things together

  • A torch

  • Snacks (essential)

  • A toilet roll (because every craft activity needs one)

instructions:

Pick your location. The lounge room is classic. Under the table is underrated.

  1. Build your walls. Stack cushions, drape blankets over chairs, and use pegs to hold things in place. Don’t over think it. Let vibe be your guide.

  2. Make a door. Just leave a gap. Use a couch cushion as a sliding door. - You’re the architect, you decide.

  3. Set up your torch inside so you can see what you're doing.

  4. HAVE Snack inside.

MOVE IN

Welcome to your new house!

  • Name your fort: Try: Fort Awesome, The Blanket Palace, Camp Couch, or Operation Cushion, Squishy City.

  • Flag: What colours and shapes say "this is OUR pillowfort"? Is there a symbol or picture that could represent your family. A family crest as it were.

  • Rules: What are the top 5 laws? Write them down and stick them at the door.

  • A password: You’re own open sesame. (maybe something from the Family Dictionary)

  • Language: Make up at least 3 words that only people in your country know

  • Garden: Every country has one. Even a tiny pretend one counts

  • Passport: Make one. Nobody gets in without it

  • Anthem: Does your country already have a song? Can you write one?

  • Menu: Design a menu for the fort’s imaginary restaurant.

  • Movies: What movies are on in the cinema?

  • Animals: What magical creatures and you see in pillow fort’s zoo?

  • Blueprint: Draw a map of the other rooms inside.

DESTRUCTIONS

Dress as monsters and destroy! (Maybe let the parents do this - sometimes they need to vent a little rage).
